The history of Amala Province began on December 8, 1948, with the blessing and inauguration of Amala Convent in Thuckalay, Kottar Diocese. Until 1979, it was under the direct administration of the General Team. On May 30, 1979, it became Amala Region, with Rev. Sr. Stanislaus as its first Regional Superior.In 1988, Amala Region was raised to the status of a Province, with Rev. Sr. Mary Edna as its first Provincial Superior. Over the years, the province flourished, increasing in both the number of convents and members. The first Formation House was established in 1991, and in 1996, the Provincialate was relocated from Thuckalay to Samayapuram, Trichy. By 2013, Amala Province had grown significantly, leading to the formation of Vimala Region on January 16, 2013, with 16 convents. This later developed into a separate province. At present, Amala Province has 198 sisters in 28 convents, continuing its mission under the leadership of Sr. Amalore Mary, the current Provincial Superior.

Our Apostolate

From its inception, education has been a primary mission of the congregation. Our Sisters serve in schools, colleges, and schools for special children, shaping the future generations. The healing ministry is another major apostolate, with Sisters providing medical care in hospitals and dispensaries, particularly in rural areas. Sisters also engage in women empowerment programmes, including V-Guard stabilizer assembly units, printing press operations, and tailoring institutes, aimed at improving the livelihoods of rural women. Committed to Christian formation, our Sisters actively participate in catechesis and the animation of pious associations. Under the patronage of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, Amala Province continues its journey of holiness, keeping alive the spirit of Venerable Mother Eliswa through love and service.
